By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Prices are expected to rise in Georgia in September, said the head of the Georgian Distributors Business Association, Iva Chkonia, Trend reports with reference to bizzone.info.

According to him, the reason is in the floating rate of lari, which for the last 5-6 years has been depreciating.

“There have already been several bounces in price increases, and in September we expect another bounce, of course, if this mark persists. It is likely that this indicator will continue, because over the last 5-6 years, if we do not take into account several months, we see that the floating rate of lari has been maintained,” sa Chkonia.

According to him, the country's economic team should act together with the National Bank.

“Otherwise, the question will have a deplorable effect on the population. Salaries of the population do not grow, the consumer basket becomes more expensive. Therefore, it is possible that a number of companies will simply cease operations. Not only imports but also locally produced products will go up in price, since local production needs imported raw materials,” he said.
