By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:
About 65 percent of all Iranian exports to Russia pass through the customs of Iran’s northwestern Gilan Province, particularly the Astara customs, said Abolqasem Yousefinejad, chairman of the provincial committee of the Iranian Customs Administration (IRICA) for Gilan Province and director general of Anzali customs, Trend reports referring to IRNA.
According to him, 56 percent of Iran's imports from Russia pass through Gilan Province, 25 percent of which are unloaded in the province.
Yousefinejad also said that improving bilateral relations (including trade relations) with neighboring countries and Russia is necessary.
“Iran's joining the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) can be a turning point insofar as increasing trade turnover is concerned. As such, along with arranging Iran's exports, it may become possible to transit Russian products [via Iran] to Iraq, Turkey and other countries,” he said.
The project of Iran's membership in the EAEU is currently being assessed by the Iranian Parliament.
