ICBA to co-op with Uzbekistan in development of agriculture

The Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khojaev and the Director General of the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) Professor Ismahane Elouafi signed a memorandum of understanding during the meeting on August 8-9 in Tashkent, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan.

The document includes cooperation in mutually beneficial areas.

In particular, the memorandum provides for the development of innovative technologies and approaches, the diversification of crops, the provision of integrated plant growing systems, the provision of relationship between livestock and forestry, the water sector, the development of breeding, seed production and modern methods of seed distribution under the “farmer to farmer” program.

The participants of the event made suggestions in the field of improving food security, water supply for the local population, exchanged views in the direction of scientific, technical and innovative approaches to them. In particular, clear recommendations on water management in the region were developed.

ICBA is an international, non-profit agricultural research center established in 1999 through the visionary leadership of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Fund, the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD), and the Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

ICBA focuses on carrying high-quality applied research that is critical to increasing food and nutritional security, improving water security, and helping building more resilient environments and income in the marginal environment areas it targets.
