President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has summarized the work on country’s industrialization and outlined a number of tasks for the government and the regional akimats (administrative centers) to address, Trend reports with reference to the press office of the president.
Thus, according to Tokayev, over the course of industrialization, some 1,250 new industrial ventures worth over eight trillion of investments have been put into operation. Some 120,000 new work places were created and the manufacturing of over 500 new types of products was launched.
“At the same time, there are no visible changes in the economy’s structure. Thus, over last ten years the share of the processing industry in GDP has been 11 percent on the average. The growth of labor efficiency from 2015 to 2018 has only amounted to four percent versus planned 12 percent,” Tokayev said.
The head of state has outlined a number of tasks for the government and the regional akimats.
The first area of the tasks is the active development of export of manufactured goods. As stated by the president, during last three years the decrease of processing industry’s share in the export structure is observed from 34 percent in 2016 to 26 percent in 2018.
“An analysis of perspective export markets should by conducted, along with the study of customs, tax, tariffs and other requirements for entering these markets and determination of efficient transport and logistics solutions,” the president said.
The second area is the ‘economy of simple things’ development.
Furthermore, Tokayev has given a detailed analysis of situation in the investments sphere. In particular, he stated that free economic zones and industrial zone have not become the ‘investments magnets’ they were expected to be.
Tokayev has also highlighted the growth prospects of upstream manufacturing, development of industry 4.0 and innovation elements, increase of efficiency of industrialization support measures.
“Creation of new economy should be based on innovative scientific and technical development of primary industries, as well as on ‘economy of simple things’ industries development,” the president said.
The comments of Tokayev will be taken into consideration when developing the third five-year plan of industrialization.
