By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

A possible creation of a free economic zone (FEZ) in Alat settlement of Baku, Azerbaijan, would certainly facilitate commercial exchanges between Poland and Azerbaijan, Poland’s Undersecretary of State Marcin Przydacz said in an interview with Trend.

“Azerbaijan’s plans regarding the Baku-Alat Port development project seem very promising for our bilateral cooperation. It will become a transportation hub in the region,” he said.

The Free Economic Zone is being created in the Alat township. The territory of the new Baku International Sea Trade Port is also included in the FEZ area.

Przydacz pointed out that the potentially new spheres of trade cooperation between the two countries include cooperation in the agricultural sector, in particular regarding food products and machinery.

“Aware of the importance of the agricultural sector for the diversification of Azerbaijani economy, we sent invitations to participate in important agro–food international fairs that will take place in Poland in the upcoming weeks: Agro Show in Bednary and Polagra in Poznan. We’ve already opened the Polish Trade Office in Baku – a branch office working under the auspices of the Polish Trade and Investment Agency," said the undersecretary of state.

"In December 2018, the ministers responsible for economy from both countries – Jadwiga Emilewicz and Shahin Mustafaev - participated in the opening of the Trade House of Azerbaijan in the center of Warsaw. I strongly believe that both offices will stimulate further growth of our bilateral trade and investment,” he added.

Further, Przydacz noted that the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation is still ahead.

“It should be organized in Baku, most probably at the end of this year or in the first half of the next year. A bilateral business forum and B2B talks of companies from both countries could accompany this important ministerial meeting,” he said.
