Iranian organization buys over 162,000 tons of tomatoes from farmers

The Central Organization for Rural Cooperatives (CORC) of Iran has purchased more than 162,000 tons of tomatoes from farmers this sowing year, said Deputy Agriculture Minister and CORC Managing Director Hossein Shirzad, Trend reports citing the organization’s website, Trend reports via the organization’s website.

He said that the purchase of tomatoes from farmers started this sowing year in four provinces - Pars, Isfahan, Ardabil and Razavi Khorasan.

He noted that so far, more than 73,000 tons of tomatoes worth 731 billion rials (about $17.4 million) have been purchased in these provinces.

Shirzad added that 54,000 tons of tomatoes were purchased in Pars province, 13,000 tons in Razavi Khorasan and 5,300 tons in Isfahan and Ardabil provinces.

“Fourteen tomato paste factories in Iran cooperate with this organization,” he said. “Therefore, a plan regarding the purchase of tomatoes from farmers will be continued.”

More than 89,000 tons of tomatoes were purchased and packaged by rural cooperatives and the related companies in Kerman, Hormozgan, Isfahan, Markazi, South Khorasan and Hamadan provinces, he noted.
