By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

A decision on the provision of a new loan worth 2.7 billion euros for Iran by the Russian government was passed during a meeting between the presidents of Iran and Russia on September 16, Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian said at an event dedicated to the opening of a number of projects in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province, Trend reports referring to the Iranian Energy Ministry's website.

According to him, projects aimed at using this loan in the energy sector will be regulated over the next 2 months, and the projects will be announced to the Russian side afterwards.

"Earlier it was decided to use 2.3 billion euros of Russian loans for the construction of the 1,400-megawatt Sirik power station in Hormozgan Province and the electrification of the Incheh Borun-Garmsar railway," he said.

The Iranian minister also said that Iran's active ties with its neighbors in the electricity sector have created special opportunities for Iran.

He believes that Iran's private sector can make use of these opportunities to boost activity in regional markets, with neighboring countries becoming a priority.

“Some 2.4 quadrillion rials (app. $57.1 billion) have been invested in the electricity industry in Iran over the past 6 years [since Iranian President Hassan Rouhani came to power in Iran in 2013],” he said.
