Iran's Sistan & Baluchestan province exports 80% of its pistachio output

Eighty percent of pistachio produced in Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan province is exported to other Iranian provinces and abroad, Head of Sistan and Baluchestan Agricultural Jihad Organization Gholam Heydar Zuraghi said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

Annual pistachio production of the province is 7,560 tons, Zuraghi said.

He noted that 10,300 hectares of the province's orchards account for pistachio.

However, only 6,750 hectares of the pistachio orchards is fruitful, he said.

A number of tropical fruits are cultivated in Sistan and Baluchestan including mango, bananas, papaya, guava and coconuts. Due to the favorable climate conditions, most agricultural crops can be grown twice a year in the province.
