An investment agreement worth 50 trillion rials (about $1.19 billion) has been signed at Shahid Rajaee Port in Iran’s southern Hormozgan province, Director General of the Ports and Maritime Organization of the Hormozgan province Allahmurad Afifipur said.

The new mechanical terminal of mining materials will be built through the private sector’s investments at Shahid Rajaee Port, Afifipur added, Trend reports referring to IRNA.

He added that Iran's steel plants will be provided with fuel through the terminal.

At the same time, export of mining materials through the terminal will be simplified, Afifipur said. The transportation costs will also decrease, he noted.

He said that over 500 people are expected to be employed at the terminal.

Afifipur added that the operating capacity of the old terminal was two million tons per year in 2006. After the new terminal is built, its capacity will increase up to 14 million tons per year, he said.
