Expansion of ore production underway in Kazakhstan

Active construction of a second concentrating mill for processing sulfide ore continues in Kazakhstan within the framework of expansion project of Aktogay mining and processing plant (MPP), Chairman of the Borad of Directors of KAZ Minerals PLC Oleg Novachuk said, Trend reports with reference to the press office of the Development Bank of Kazakhstan.

According to the chairman, the foundation of new buildings has already been completed, metal structures have been assembled, and the covering of the buildings to continue the work during the winter is underway.

“The first ore will be processed at the new concentrating mill in 2021. I want to emphasize that the construction is carried out by local contractors under the guidance of our project staff,” he said.

He added, that after the completion of the project, the mine will produce an additional 80 thousand tons of copper per year.

“Taking into consideration Bozshakol and the first Aktogay concentrating mills already in operation, this will be the third globally significant mining project built by KAZ Minerals in Kazakhstan since 2016,” Novachuk said.

Development Bank of Kazakhstan JSC in June 2019 opened a credit line in the amount of $600 million for up to 15 years for the implementation of the expansion project. As part of the project, it is planned to build a second concentrating mill for processing sulfide ore, as a result, the capacity of the MPP will double – from 25 to 50 million tons per year.
