Representatives of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan have prepared documents on border demarcation, Trend reports citing the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan.

It is planned to adopt the agreement at a meeting of the inter-parliamentary commission.

According to the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan, from September 30 to October 6 in Uzbek city of Nukus, a regular meeting of working groups of the joint Uzbek-Turkmen intergovernmental commission on delimitation and demarcation of the state border between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan took place.

"During the event, the parties read the regulatory and technical documents of demarcation and agreed to submit them for approval by the joint Uzbek-Turkmen intergovernmental commission," said the ministry's message.

In addition, the parties exchanged views on aerial photography at the joint border. The corresponding protocol was signed by the heads of delegations.

After the collapse of the USSR, significant sections of the border of Uzbekistan with neighboring countries that were part of the USSR remained uncoordinated. The length of the Uzbek-Turkmen border is about 1,650 kilometers.

Tashkent and Ashgabat signed the first agreement on the demarcation of certain sections in 2000. It was possible to resume the approval process only in 2017 after the election of Shavkat Mirziyoyev as the President of Uzbekistan.
