About 20 vessels have been repaired at the Balkan shipyard at the international seaport in Turkmenistan’s Turkmenbashi city, Trend reports referring to the Business-Turkmenistan agency.

At this production facility, it is possible to perform maintenance and repair work on 20-30 vessels, the report said. The capacity of the plant also allows building up to six vessels annually. It is possible to build various vessels, oil tankers, offshore platforms and trailers as well as boats.

Local vessels “Turkmenistan”, “Makhtumkuli”, “Alaja”, “Bitarap”, “Bagtyyar”, “Serdar”, “Gayrat”, “Kenar”, “Aydak”, “Ekerem” and “Lachin”, as well as “Soltan” and “Janna” owned by GAC Marine company were repaired at the shipyard. Furthermore, dry cargo vessels, oil tankers, trailers and support vessels, tankers transporting petrochemical products, ferries and auxiliary vessels were also repaired.

The Balkan shipyard in Turkmenbashi city near the Caspian Sea is a basis for development of domestic shipbuilding. It is planned to build ships of various classes and types in the future. Among them, there are the RO-RO ferries for transportation of vehicles including cars, trucks, trailers and wagons.

The shipyard was designed according to the requirements of International Association of Classification Societies. The shipyard holds a total area of 166,000 square meters. Its construction project was implemented by the Turkish Gap Inshaat company.

With the commissioning of an additional international sea port in Turkmenbashi city in May 2018, optimal opportunities emerged for sending goods that enter the port along the Silk Road route from the countries of Asia and the Pacific, further to European countries through the ports of Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran.

The annual throughput capacity of the port is 17-18 million tons. Together with the previously operating port, this figure reaches 25-26 million tons.
