New orchards were set up on some 7,800 hectarest of land in Georgia, provided through some 43.1 million lari ($14.6 million) of state financing, Trend reports via the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia.

In the “Plant the Future” state program, changes have occurred that will greatly facilitate the work of those farmers who are engaged in berry crop cultivation.

According to the changes, the beneficiaries of the state program will be able to buy imported seedlings from local companies.

At the same time, seedlings will be imported through an intermediary company that will collect orders and import a minimum number of seedlings from foreign companies. Beneficiaries are no longer required to buy seedlings through direct import.

Earlier, the head of the Agricultural Project Management Agency Paata Shekiladze said that orchards planted by farmers with the help of the "Plant the Future" state program will yield 16,000 tons of fruits by 2020.
