Customs of Iran's West Azerbaijan province export goods worth $2.5B

From the beginning of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), the total value of the goods exported via borders of Iran's West Azerbaijan province amounted to $2.5 billion, an official with West Azerbaijan Customs Administration Tohid Azarbod said, Trend reports referring to IRNA.

Azarbod noted that the aforementioned amount also includes exports of Iran's other provinces via West Azerbaijan's customs.

According to the customs official, the value of total exports has increased by 163 percent compared to the same period of the previous Iranian year.

The value of the exports of West Azerbaijan province itself exceeded one billion rials (roughly $23,800), which is 130 percent more compared to the same period last year, Azarbod said.

Since the beginning of the current Iranian year, Iran imported goods worth $500 million via borders of West Azerbaijan province, which is 82 percent more compared to the same period last year, the customs official said.

At the same time, the value of transit cargo via borders of West Azerbaijan reached $1.62 billion, which is 35 percent more compared to the same period last year, Azarbod said.

In the current Iranian year, so far, the revenues of the West Azerbaijan Customs amounted to 3.84 trillion rials (roughly $91.4 million), the customs official said.

Tohid Azarbod noted that supplying West Azerbaijan customs with modern equipment is crucial, and on this matter, the Poldasht customs of the province on the border with Nakchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan is priority.

Iran's West Azerbaijan province has nine customs and five border markets.
