ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, Nov. 14
By Huseyn Hasanov– Trend:
This year, farmers of Turkmenistan's Dashoguz region collected 35,000 tons of rice from 8,100 hectares of paddies, Trend reports referring to the country's Agriculture Ministry.
Preference is given to the high-yielding and disease-resistant rice varieties Nukus-2, Munbashi and Alenga, which are adapted to local soil and climatic conditions.
The harvesting process involves about 200 high-performance John Deere and Claas combine harvesters.
The largest rice producer in the region is S. Turkmenbashi district. A rice cleaning plant operates in the district and supplies consumers with up to 30,000 tons of high-quality products per year.
Rice is rich in carbohydrates and is considered one of the main staple foods in the countries of Central and Southeast Asia.
