530-km long tunnels being constructed in Iran

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 19

By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

Presently, 530-kilometer long road and railway tunnels are being constructed in Iran, Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami said at the 13th Iranian Tunneling Conference, Trend reports via ILNA.

Eslami said that 330-kilometer long tunnels are being used in Iran’s road and railway sector.

The minister added that exploration work in tunnel construction in Iran has increased by 50 percent compared to previous years.

Eslami said that because of Iran’s geographically mountainous terrain and the country’s population living mainly in Iran’s west and north, laying tunnels and roads is one of the important issues.

Many road and railway projects have been implemented for many years in Iran. Although a number of projects have been put into operation so far, other projects haven’t been commissioned for certain reasons.
