Representatives of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have prepared draft documents on demarcation of the next sections of the border between the two countries, Trend reports citing Uzbekistan’s Foreign Ministry.

According to the ministry, on Nov. 18-22, a regular meeting of the joint Uzbek-Kazakh demarcation commission was held.

"The parties have prepared draft final documents on the demarcation of the state border to the site within the Navoi region and Uzbekistan’s Republic of Karakalpakstan, adjacent to the Aktobe, Kyzylorda and Mangystau regions of Kazakhstan," the ministry’s said in a statement.

Following the meeting, the schedule of the commission’s meetings for 2020 was approved, the meeting was held in a traditionally friendly atmosphere, Uzbekistan’s Foreign Ministry added.

After the collapse of the USSR, significant sections of the border of Uzbekistan with neighboring countries that were part of the Union remained uncoordinated and caused regular border conflicts.

The length of the border between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan exceeds 2,100 kilometers, the negotiations on its demarcation of the parties began in 2003 and intensified in early 2017 after the new Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev came to power.
