Uzbekistan to allocate over $500 M to “weak” regions

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 11

By Fakhri Vakilov-Trend:

Law “On the State Budget of Uzbekistan for 2020” signed by Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev incorporates forecasts of revenues and expenditures of the budgets of the Autonomous Republic of Karakalpakstan, budgets of the regions and the city of Tashkent for 2020, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.

Almost in all regions of Uzbekistan, expenses exceed revenues. In particular, "budget deficit" is forecasted in Andijan, Jizzakh, Kashkadarya, Namangan, Samarkand, Surkhandarya, Syrdarya, Fergana and Khorezm regions.

Revenues do not exceed expenses only in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, in Bukhara, Navoi and Tashkent regions, as well as in the city of Tashkent.

Given that unprofitable regions need extra money, in the law, the president also approved the leveling of equalizing inter-budget transfers allocated from the republican budget to the local budgets of the regions. The list of recipients of grants includes nine regions.

The greatest support will be received by the Namangan region - $102.5 million followed by Surkhandarya ($88 million) and Kashkadarya ($79.5 million) regions. The smallest amount will be allocated to Fergana ($36.9 million), Syrdarya ($36 million), and Samarkand ($33.7 million) regions.
