Uzbekistan may boosts export of fruits, vegetables to Iran

Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov met with Iranian Minister of Industry, Mines and Business, Reza Rahmani, who is in Tashkent within the framework of the visit of the Iranian delegation consisting of heads of ministries, relevant organizations and business circles, Trend reports citing press service of Uzbekistan’s Ministry.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade and Head of Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPO) Hamid Zadboum and Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Iran Bakhodir Abdullayev.

During the meeting, which took place on the eve of the 13th meeting of the Uzbek-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, the existing opportunities and prerequisites for enhancing bilateral relations were discussed. The dialogue allowed identifying priority promising areas for cooperation, with a view to attracting investment in the implementation of joint projects and increasing trade: agriculture, fisheries and construction sector.

Opportunities for increasing export of fruits and vegetables to Iran and the ways of interaction between the foreign trade departments of the two countries were separately discussed. In particular, specific proposals were voiced to facilitate the conditions of mutual trade by ensuring mutual recognition of phytosanitary control requirements.

The importance of the work done by the parties in the preparation and conduct of a number of events within the framework of the Iranian delegation’s stay in Uzbekistan was also noted - an exhibition of Iran’s commodity producers (December 11-13), the Uzbek-Iranian business forum, B2B meetings and a cooperation exchange.

In addition, the details of the Protocol were worked out following the visit of the Iranian delegation, the signing of which is planned to be held during the meeting of the Uzbek-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.
