Service sector becomes dominant force in Uzbekistan's economy

Today service sector is one of the most dynamically developing sectors of Uzbekistan’s economy, Trend reports citing State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

At the beginning of 2020, the total number of operating enterprises and organizations in the country reached 398,100, and 262,000 people were involved in the service sector. Compared to the same period in 2018, their number increased by 23 percent.

The share of enterprises and organizations operating in the service sector was 65.8 percent, in industry – 17.7 percent, and construction – 9.1 percent. Only 7.4 percent operate in agriculture, forestry and fisheries.

As of January 1, 2020, in the structure of existing enterprises and organizations related to the service sector, their weight is predominantly engaged in trading activities (38.6 percent). The number of functioning enterprises and organizations providing accommodation and food services is 9.8 percent. The proportion of operating enterprises and organizations associated with transportation and storage reached 5.9 percent.

The share of functioning enterprises and organizations involved in information activities and providing communication services is three percent.

A similar indicator is observed in the field of health and social services.
