Two varieties of wheat seeds were imported to Azerbaijan last year from Russia through Azerbaijan’s State Seed Fund, the fund’s Chairman Emin Aliyev told Trend.

“Last year, wheat seeds of the “Grom” and “Tanya” varieties were imported to Azerbaijan, and they provide high yields,” the chairman noted. “There is great demand for these two types of wheat seeds in Russia. The State Seed Fund annually, before importing any kind of seeds into Azerbaijan, analyzes the local market and collects information about the needs of Azerbaijani farmers for various types of agricultural products. The fund’s employees, keeping in touch with farmers, conduct market analysis for 2020 in almost all Azerbaijani districts.”

Following the survey among the farmers, the level of demand is determined for certain varieties of seeds of agricultural products that are most in demand in the local market, Aliyev said.

“This year, there are plans to expand the variety of cereal seeds, as well as closely engage in the import of new types of legume seeds, including peas, beans, soybeans, as well as potatoes, eggplant and more,” the chairman noted.
