Iran, Russia sign agreement in geology studies

Iran's Geological Survey and Mineral Exploration of Iran (GSI) and Research Institute for Earth Sciences (RIES) signed memorandum of understanding with Russian company OZAEO on developing relations in the field of geosciences.

The corresponding MoU was signed by Deputy Head of GSI Jafar Omrani, Head of RIES Razieh Lak and Head of OZAEO presiding board Alla Gavrilova, Trend reports citing IRNA.

The agreement provides for evaluation of mineral resources, regional geology, airborne geophysical surveys alongside exploration of minerals and groundwater resources and cooperation in earth sciences.

It also envisages joint activities on Geographic Information System, trading technical knowledge, training and holding workshops, providing lab services and participation at international projects.

Iran seeks to explore more mineral reserves based on the Sixth Development Plan (2016 – 2021) on an area of 400,000 square kilometers; a similar plan was implemented on the territory of 250,000 square kilometers from 2014 to 2016.
