Uzbekistan intends to produce high-quality shoes

Association of leather and footwear enterprises of Uzbekistan Uzcharmsanoat plans to establish production of high-quality shoes in Uzbekistan, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.

In 2019, the leather and fur products were produced by 1.4 times more than in 2018. A total of 86.1 million pairs of shoes worth 60 billion soum ($6.3 million), and fur products worth 69.3 billion soum ($7.2 million) were produced.

In 2020, localization of production in the industry will increase due to optimization of imports, the report said. This indicator will reach 100 percent for artificial leather, 92 percent for shoe soles, 84 percent for sports equipment and 78 percent for sports bags.

Uzcharmsanoat Association intends to attract about 100 new enterprises of the industry to export activities by opening offices and trading houses in Kazakhstan, Turkey and Azerbaijan, the report said.

In 2019, 90 projects with attraction of foreign direct investments worth $146.2 million were completed.

In 2020-2022, the association intends to implement 248 new projects in cooperation with local investors in total amount of $421 million, of which $196.8 million will be foreign direct investment. As a result, 7,500 new jobs will be created in 2020, and more than 21,000 people will be employed in 2020-2022.

It is also planned to establish production of high-quality import-substituting products for the total cost of 360 million dollars, the report said.

Uzcharmsanoat Association unites over 100 domestic enterprises specializing in footwear, leather accessories and clothing production.
