Iran is one of the big gold and jewelry producers in the world, but there is a serious weakness in terms of gold export, said Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade.

"Iran is ranked seventh biggest gold and jewelry producer in the world, so the country has advantageous position in terms of exporting gold and jewelry; however, the industry hasn't fully used this potential," said Bahman Hosseinzadeh, Trend reports citing ILAN.

"The capacities of the sector should be presented to global markets, so participating in international exhibitions can have important effect in export growth," the deputy minister added.

"Despite sanctions, the number of participants of the 12th International Exhibition of Gold, Silver, Jewelry, Watch and Related Industries, which is held in Tehran, has grown by half comparing to the previous exhibition," said Head of Iran's Gold and Jewelry Producers and Exporters Union Esfandiar Seifi.

"Total of 125 Iranian companies including 90 gold and jewelry producers as well as companies from five countries including Turkey, Italy, Germany, UK and Japan participate in the exhibition that started on February 12." he said. "Italy, Turkey, India, South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand and Iran are the top gold and jewelry producers in the world, and Iran seeks to increase the export volume," he said.

The 12th International Exhibition of Gold, Silver, Jewelry, Watch and Related Industries is held in Tehran Feb 12–15, 2020.
