Iran takes a big step to improve quality of internet

Iran`s ICT minister Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi has unveiled the result of a two-year effort to improve the quality of internet in the country, Trend reports.

"We've tried to increase the number of mobile internet users in Iran for about four years, going from 300,000 to 70 million people," Jahromi tweeted.

The minister pointed out that it is a remarkable growth in the world, adding that Iran is also concerned about quality of internet.

Further, the official pointed out that a new local website has been created, where the users can monitor the internet quality in the country.

“In order to give better internet quality, we launched NetSanjPlus.ir website, so that everyone can see the status of the coverage and the quality of internet through this website.”

The number of internet users reached 67.6 million people in Iran from March 21 through September 22 of this Iranian year (beginning on March 21, 2019), Trend reported earlier, referring to the statistics of Iran’s Communications Regulatory Authority.

In accordance with the statistics, 4.06 out of 67.6 million people are using ADSL and Fiber Optics. Some 63.6 million people are mobile internet users in Iran.

The internet penetration rate was 81.48 percent, mobile internet penetration rate - 76.57 percent, penetration rate of internet used at home - 4.9 percent from March 21 through September 22.

Some 12.5 percent accounted for penetration rate of internet used at home from March 21, 2018 through March 21, 2019 while the penetration rate of the mobile internet increased by more than 76 percent.

In accordance with the statistics, some 93.9 percent of users use 3G and 4G technologies to go online. Some 5.88 percent use DSL technology and less than 1 percent use FTTX technology.
