Turkmenistan expands list of goods subject to customs duties

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, Feb.29

Turkmenistan is going to introduce new lists of goods subject to customs duties on import and export from March 1, 2020, Trend reports citing the relevant decree signed by the country’s president.

The document was adopted for encouraging local producers, protection of their interests and improvement of competitiveness of their products, as well as optimization of trade.

The Ministry of Finances and Economy, the State Customs Service are assigned together with the Ministry of Justice to prepare proposals on amendments and additions to the legislation of Turkmenistan and present them to the Cabinet of Ministers within one month.

The State Customs Service of Turkmenistan is a state governing body that implements state policy in regulating the operation of the customs system, ensures its compliance with Turkmenistan’s international obligations on customs issues, and also fights against smuggling and other crimes, administrative offenses.

Turkmenistan has six customs departments and 51 customs posts.

Turkmenistan is a member of the World Customs Organization.
