BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 2

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

In the past two months, the export of Georgian wine to China decreased by six percent compared to the same period in 2019, the Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture said, Trend reports citing Georgian media.

According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture Khatia Tsilosani, China has generally reduced imports of products due to coronavirus, and Georgian wine was no exception.

“As for the rest of the export directions, the income from the export of Georgian wine grew by seven percent, which means that our products are getting more expensive and the quantitative reduction in exports does not affect income,” she said.

According to her, there is an emergency situation in China, therefore, the decline in exports is associated not only with a decrease in consumption, but also with the difficult situation in ports, toughened customs procedures and other factors.

However, Georgian wine export grows to the European and the US markets, said Tsilosani.

China ranks second in Georgia’s commodity circulation.

In January 2020, the trade turnover between Georgia and China amounted to more than $109.3 million, which is 12.4 percent of the total trade turnover of Georgia.

During the reporting period, Georgia exported products worth $44.3 million to the Chinese market, which is 16.9 percent of total exports from Georgia.

Meanwhile, China exported products worth $64.9 million to the Georgian market, which comprises 10.5 percent of total import to Georgia.
