Installation of equipment soon to start at Iran's zinc processing plant

Installation of equipment as part of the first phase of the construction of a zinc processing plant at the Mehdiabad Mine Complex in Iran’s Yazd province will begin early next Iranian year (starting March 21, 2020) said, Amin Safari, Managing Director of Mehdiabad Mine Complex, Trend reports citing IMIDRO.

According to Safari, the progress in construction of this plant is currently 28 percent. After completing the first phase, the plant will receive 2 million tons of raw material and produce 200,000 tons of zinc concentrate.

Safari said it is estimated that there is a 26 million tonnes of zinc oxide in the northern part of the Mehdiabad Mine Complex and studies should be conducted in this regard.

The head of the complex said that 1.5 million tonnes of calamine was discovered, and next year it will be extracted from the mine.

As for the sales, Safari said Mehdiabad is expected to sell about 65-70,000 tonnes of barite by the end of this year (March 21, 2019 - 21 March 2020). This is a double increase in value and weight compared to last year (March 21, 2018 to March 21, 2019).

Safari said that by the end of the year it is expected to sell about 140,000 tons of zinc oxide. This means a 20 percent increase in value and weight compared to last year.
