Iran considers Azerbaijan gateway to Caucasus, Russia

Iran considers Azerbaijan as a gateway to the Caucasus and Russia in terms of foreign trade, former Secretary General of the Iran-Azerbaijan Joint Chamber of Commerce from the Iranian side Hussein Vosuqi Irani told Trend.

According to Hussein Vosuqi, the geographical position of Azerbaijan connects Iran to the Russian and Caucasus markets.

Vosuqi added that if trade relations among the two countries are strengthened, it will even more improve Azerbaijan's position as a transit country.

The expert said that trade facilitation will have a positive impact on the growth of imports to Azerbaijan, the Caucasus and Russia.

Vosuqi said the economic ties between Iran and Azerbaijan are developing, adding that he has high hopes for bilateral economic projects.

"Strengthening economic infrastructure among the two countries can contribute to economic development," he said.

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Iran is expected to reach $500 million in 2019.
