Enterprise Azerbaijan: Innovations cover almost all spheres in country

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 17

By Fidan Babayeva – Trend:

Presently, more than 20 incubation and acceleration centers are actively operating in Azerbaijan, Oruj Dursunzade, manager of EnterpriseAzerbaijan told Trend.

“There are many incubation and acceleration centers established by both state and private sectors in Azerbaijan,” Dursunzade added. “There are also centers operating within the public-private cooperation.”

"Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree ensuring coordination of activities in the field of innovative development of Azerbaijan in January 2019,” the manager said. “For this purpose, the country’s strategy that meets the modern challenges is being developed."

“In accordance with the changes in the Tax Code, startups that are entities of micro or small entrepreneurship and operating in Azerbaijan as legal entities are exempt from corporate income tax from the date of receiving the startup certificate for a period of three years,” the manager said.

"Incubation and acceleration centers and the chosen residents took part in a number of important international forums and summits in 2019," said Dursunzade.

Since the beginning of 2020, the State Employment Service under the Azerbaijani Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population has begun to support innovative and non-traditional projects as part of a self-employment program.

"I would like to stress that EnterpriseAzerbaijan submitted 16 projects to the State Employment Service for the implementation of startup projects that have been already included in our website and meet the requirements of the self-employment program," the manager said.

Dursunzade emphasized that to stimulate the innovation ecosystem of Azerbaijan, the INNOLAND Incubation and Acceleration Center is creating an Azerbaijani technical diaspora in Silicon Valley, US.

“The main goal is the development of a startup ecosystem in Azerbaijan and further strengthening of relations between Azerbaijani and foreign innovators,” the manager said.
