China supplies raw materials for manufacturing of medical masks to Uzbekistan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr. 8

By Ilkin Seyfaddini – Trend:

More than 40 tons of raw materials for production of medical masks and workwear were delivered by special charter flight from China to Uzbekistan, Trend reported citing Uztextilprom.

Due to the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the world, and Uzbekistan in particular, there was a shortage of raw materials used in the manufacture of protective masks. This, in turn, led to the problem of missing masks and overpriced them.

The Chinese Pharmaceutical Industry Development Agency, with the assistance of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in China, imported to Uzbekistan more than 40 tons of raw materials - spunbond, meltblone, protective gear and masks.

This charter flight was first and it is expected that from this month onwards the raw materials will be supplied by rail and road transport.

Earlier it was reported that the Uztextilprom Association is taking measures to increase the production of masks. Association plans to produce five million mask per day.

The outbreak of the coronavirus began in the Chinese city of Wuhan (an international transport hub), at a fish market in late December 2019. The number of people killed by the disease has surpassed 82,000. Over 1.4 million people have been confirmed as infected. Meanwhile, over 300,000 people have reportedly recovered.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic on March 11. Some sources claim the coronavirus outbreak started as early as November 2019.
