Rouhani: Iran to inaugurate large water, soil projects in summer

TEHRAN, Iran, April 15

Iran's agriculture sector will have better conditions, and large water and soil projects are to be inaugurated in summer and autumn, said Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

"Water productivity in agriculture is an important project that would be commissioned in the current Iranian year [began March 20, 2020)," said Hassan Rouhani, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"It is predicted that the agriculture production will increase from 3.5 percent to 4 percent, while the wheat production is to reach 14 million tons in current Iranian year," the head of state said. "The rice production shall reach 2.6 million tons, sugar production shall increase to 1.7 million tons, and fish farming will improve."

"The government plans to complete projects in the area of 46,000 hectares in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, while projects in 295,000-hectare land in Khozestan and Ilam provinces are operating," Rouhani said.

"Efforts were taken to develop infrastructure the agriculture sector, and we hope the production will increase in current Iranian year," the president added. "Furthermore, the Central Bank of Iran has predicted economic growth and reduction of inflation."
