Iran reveals volume of loaded and unloaded cargo in ports of Hormuzgan province

More than 94 million tons of oil and non-oil products were loaded and unloaded at the ports of Hormozgan province in southern Iran in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020), said Head of Hormozgan Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) and Shahid Rajaee Special Economic Zone Allahmorad Afifipour said, Trend reports citing PMO.

According to Afifipour, 12.3 million tons of oil and oil products were exported through the ports of the province in the last Iranian year and this is an increase of 4.8 percent in this area.

Afifipour added that more than 61,000 ships docked in the ports of province last Iranian year. As many as 5,000 of them had a load of more than 1,000 tons, and 56,000 had a load of less than 1,000 tons.

The official said that one of the main investment projects is the construction of mining items terminal in the Shahid Rajaee port of the province. It will be possible to mechanically export and import 50 million tons of mining items a year through this terminal.

"The third phase of Shahid Rajaee port is one of the largest port projects in Iran. The third phase will allow the container terminal of this port to grow. This phase is being built with 10 trillion rials (about $238 million) funds of the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization," he said.

Afifipour said that with the commissioning of third phase, the capacity of the port's container terminal will increase from 6.3 million TEU to 8.4 million TEU.
