Oilseeds sowing area to be expanded in Kazakhstan's Kostanay

Within the framework of sowing area diversification in Kazakhstan’s Kostanay region, the area for oilseeds sowing will be increased to 700,000 ha, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Agriculture Ministry.

This year the sowing area in the region will be 5.2 million ha, including 4.7 million ha allocated for spring sowing, The majority of the land will be used for sowing wheat (3.2 million ha).

Some 620,800 ha will be used for forage crops sowing, 4,100 ha will be used for sowing potatoes, vegetables and melons.

To provide the soil with moisture, farmers of the region carried out snow retention on 1.4 million ha of land. Some 1.59 million ha of vapors, 1.5 million ha of autumn fallow were prepared for sowing this year.

In order to carry out sowing work in Kostanay region some 71,000 tons of diesel fuel were allocated. Some 42,000 tons of the fuel were already paid for, 27,000 tons were sent to the region and 17,000 tons were already received by the farmers.

Within the framework of state support, some 10.5 billion tenge ($24.5 million) were allocated to refund expenditures of region’s farms operating in plant growing, including 5.6 billion tenge ($12.6 million) to subsidize pesticides’ costs and 3 billion tenge ($7 million) to subsidize mineral fertilizers’ costs.

Kazakhstan’s Agrarian Credit Corporation has also allocated 24.1 billion tenge to fund the sowing work in the region ($56.2 million).
