Uzbekistan and Turkey discussed implementation of mutual agreements and further development of multi-faceted bilateral cooperation, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan.
During the videoconference, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov and Vice President of Turkey Fuat Oktay discussed joint initiatives to prevent the impact of pandemic on the economies of two countries.
An active interaction to promote the launched investment initiatives will be continued. In this context, the sides considered the possibility of organizing visits of experts and top managers of companies from Turkey to Uzbekistan as the situation with coronavirus pandemic stabilizes.
The two sides discussed joint efforts to boost the volume of mutual trade and noted that the work to elaborate the agreement on preferential trade will be reinforced to boost the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Turkey to $5 billion a year.
The parties also discussed cooperation in transport sector. As reported, the Turkish side will consider opportunities to create the most favorable conditions for uninterrupted and unhindered transit of Uzbek goods via its territory.
In addition, the options for cooperation in the framework of Uzbekistan's accession to the World Trade Organization were reviewed. The Turkish side assured of full support for this initiative, as well as expressed willingness to provide necessary technical and consultative assistance in this matter. Interaction between relevant specialists of the two countries will be launched online in the near future.
In February 2020, the trade turnover between Turkey and Uzbekistan increased by $5.1 million compared to the same period of 2019, amounting to $158.8 million.
