Monetary base up in Georgia

The amount of reserve money increased by 400.9 million lari ($125.4 million) or by 9.4 percent in March 2020, compared to February 2020 in Georgia, Trend reports referring to the National Bank of Georgia ( NBG).

As reported, the amount of reserve money reached 4.7 billion lari ($1.4 billion).

On average, in March, the monetary base increased by 133.4 million lari ($41.7 million) or by 3.1 percent compared to the previous month. By the end of the period, the annual increase in reserve money amounted to 31.6 percent.

According to the National Bank, net purchases of foreign currency by the National Bank of Georgia in March amounted to $14.2 million. As a result, net foreign assets declined by approximately $85.8 million.

In March, funds on state deposits increased by 356.2 million lari ($111.4 million), and their volume at the end of the period amounted to 948.6 million lari ($296.7 million).
