Iran discloses volume of wheat purchased from farmers

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 10

About 1.1 million tons of wheat have been purchased from farmers in Iran from April 4 to date (May 10), Trend reports citing the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.

According to the report, the value of wheat purchased from farmers was 27.8 trillion rials (about $661 million).

“So far, 20.4 trillion rials (about $487 million) of these funds have been paid to farmers,” report said.

According to the report, the process of purchasing wheat continues in 17 provinces of Iran - West Azerbaijan, Ilam, Bushehr, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari , North Khorasan, Khuzestan, Semnan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Fars, Qazvin, Kurdistan, Kerman, Kermanshah, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Golestan, Lorestan and Hormozgan provinces.

“So far, 730,000 tons of wheat have been purchased in Khuzestan province, 98,300 tons in Bushehr province, 83,300 tons in Ilam province, 71,400 tons in Fars province, 65,000 tons in Kerman province," said the report.

The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting year is set between 25,000 rials (about 59 cents) and 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram in the current Iranian year.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice and other products, are purchased from farmers by a state company under a guarantee in Iran.
