At the initiative of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and by the decision of the Government of Georgia, the debts to Georgian Amelioration Ltd. will be completely written off to the 42,000 individuals and legal entities in the amount of up to 8 million lari ($2.5 million), Trend reports referring to Georgia media.
As reported, it concerns the debts which were formed in 2012-2019 for land amelioration services.
“This debt will be automatically written off to farmers. In addition, the farmers will be exempted from the amelioration service fee in 2020, which costs up to 75 lari [$23.47] per hectare and 5 million lari [$1.5 million] in total. The assistance is intended for all farmers who use irrigation and drainage services on an area of up to 10 hectares," said Minister of Agriculture Levan Davitashvili.
According to him, in Eastern Georgia, the cost of irrigation is 75 lari ($23.47) per hectare, in Western Georgia – 45 lari ($14.08) per hectare, and for drainage – 40 lari ($12.52).
As he noted, in the case of more than 10 hectares of land, the owner will pay only the difference.
According to Davitashvili, in order to enjoy this benefit, the individual and legal entity must submit an application for amelioration services.
