BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 12
By Fidan Babayeva – Trend:
Azerbaijani Association of Manufacturers of Building Materials plans to expand the geography of exports of the building materials to other neighboring countries in 2020, and a number of necessary measures are being taken, Chairman of the association Elkhan Bashirov told Trend on May 12.
According to the chairman, currently, the products are exported to Georgia and Russia.
“Some 2.5 percent of the total sales accounted for the export to foreign countries. Since the beginning of this year, glass, parquet, and facade materials have been of the greatest demand abroad,” he stressed. “Nearly 30 percent of the cost of building materials account for rail, road and sea transportation costs. There is no such thing anywhere in the world. We believe that transportation costs should make up a maximum of 5 percent of the production cost."
“Changes in the domestic market were apparent in the 1st quarter of 2020. The main reason for this is the pandemic, which is now a global issue,” the chairman noted.
“Currently, the market for building materials isn't in good situation, since the demand decreased. Compared to the previous two years, the level of demand has plunged,” added Bashirov.
The Association of Manufacturers of Building Materials of Azerbaijan was established in 2017 as a part of systematic reforms carried out in order to ensure the development of entrepreneurship in the country.
