Lebap region of Turkmenistan overfulfills plan for cocoon harvesting

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 13

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

Turkmenistan’s Leban region has overfulfilled plan for harvesting cocoons, Trend reports with reference to Business Turkmenistan information portal.

This region has provided the state with about 200 tons of cocoon, out of the planned 181 tons. Silkworms were grown at plants and adapted to local conditions. The collected cocoons will be dried and prepared for further sale.

The sericulturists of the Danev, Dovletli, Kerki districts have fulfilled the plan to deliver the cocoons not only at the district level, but also at the country level.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection of Turkmenistan and the municipality organizations of the country are charged with ensuring the production of 2,100 tons of raw cocoon in 2020.

Sericulture can become one of the key sectors of the local agro-industry and spread throughout Turkmenistan, with the exception of the western regions. More than half of the cocoon harvesting takes place in Lebap Region of Turkmenistan.

The leading enterprises of the industry are the Turkmenabat grain-producing plant, the Ashgabat filature factory and the Turkmenabat silk production association.
