Japanese Sumitomo, Turkmenistan talk co-op in electric power sector

Japanese Sumitomo Corporation and Turkmenawtoulaglary Agency (Turkmen Automobile Service, part of Turkmen Ministry of Industry and Communication) of Turkmenistan held a videoconference, dedicated to the cooperation of the two sides, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenistan’s State News Agency.

The issue was discussed during a videoconference between Sumitomo Corporation and Turkmenawtoulaglary Agency (Turkmen Automobile Service), which was dedicated to the development of companies' cooperation.

During the meeting parties discussed bilateral cooperation in the electric power, transport and communication sectors, as well as the introduction of advanced technologies. The consideration was given to other fields where parties see the further cooperation as mutually beneficial.

The collaboration in logistics was also considered. The participants made proposals within the framework of the 'open doors policy' pursued by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Sumitomo Corporation was originally founded as The Osaka North Harbour Company Limited in December 1919. The corporation signed a contract, including civil and installation work for construction of Zerger (Lebap) Gas-Fired Power Plant (Lebap Province, Turkmenistan; power capacity: 400 megawatts) with Turkmenistan's Turkmenenergo State Power Corporation.
