The external merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to $3.46 billion from January through April 2020, 11.8 percent lower compared to the same period of 2019, Trend reports with reference to National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

The exports equaled $1 billion (11.9 percent lower), while the imports stood at $2.46 billion (11.8 percent lower).

The negative trade balance was $1.46 billion in January-April 2020, and its share in external trade turnover constituted 42.2 percent.

From January through April 2020 the share of the top ten trading partners by exports from Georgia amounted to 78.1 percent. The top partners were Azerbaijan ($145.2 million), China ($135.5 million) and Russia ($125.6 million).

In the reporting period, the share of the top ten trading partners in imports to Georgia amounted to 68.9 percent. The top partners were Turkey ($406 million), Russia ($270.1 million) and Azerbaijan ($221.8 million).

In January-April 2020 the share of the top ten trading partners in the total external trade turnover of Georgia amounted to 70.1 percent. The top trading partners were Turkey ($469.3 million), Russia ($395.7 million) and Azerbaijan ($367 million).
