TEHRAN, Iran, June 1
Trend:
Iran's Fars Province is expected to increase wheat production in current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020), said the director of cultivation affairs in Ministry of Agriculture of Iran.
Ahmad Dehghan has discussed wheat production and cultivation in Fars Province in an interview with Trend.
"The wheat was cultivated on an area of 412,602 hectares in Fars Province during last Iranian year [began March 21, 2019]; from this volume, about 267,500 hectares of wheat was cultivated in water, while 145,102 hectares accounted for dried farming," he said.
"The wheat cultivation duration in Fars province lasts from April till August 20, and it is predicted that the province will produce 1.4 million tons of wheat this Iranian year," he added. "The production will increase as a result of measures taken in farming, which include using new types of wheat, following the cultivation dates, mechanical cultivation, good nutrition and controlling the pests that are harming the crops."
"Furthermore, good climate conditions and rain fall will help to improve the production," the director said.
Dehghan noted that considering the increase of wheat purchase guarantee price to 25,000 rial (about 59 cents) per kilo, it is expected Fars Province would produce considerable amount of wheat.
Adviser to the Agriculture Minister of Iran Esmail Esfandiaripour has recently told Trend that the ministry predicted the wheat production to reach 14 million tons in current Iranian year.
"The country's wheat cultivation level is around 6.5 million hectares, of which two thirds account for water cultivation and one third is dried farming," he said.
