TEHRAN, Iran, June 4
Trend:
Iranian President's Chief of Staff Mahmoud Vaezi announced the reopening of Bazargan border, Trend reports citing Iranian Presidential Website.
“The outbreak of coronavirus has not been able to stop the expansion of Iran-Turkey relations,” Vaezi said.
He expressed hope that the trade relations between the two countries will develop despite difficulties.
The decision to open the border in Turkey’s Agri province followed the talks between Vaezi and Turkish Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan three days ago.
According to Iranian president's official website, Ruhsar Pekcan announced that the Bazargan and Habur borders will be re-opened soon.
“The re-opening of these borders will lead to boost in trade and commodity exchanges between the two countries,” Pekcan said.
In an interview with a Turkish TV channel, Pekcan praised the Iranian government's cooperation in designing and implementing health protocols that have led to the reopening of borders.
She expressed hope that the trade between the two countries will be accelerated.
Turkey closed the borders with Iran in the face of a spike in confirmed coronavirus cases in Iran, on February 24.
