Iranian president inaugurates 8 water, power projects

Iranian President has inaugurated eight big water and power projects? worth $620 million investment in West Azerbaijan and Bushehr provinces.

They include, among others a steam unit in combined cycle power plant in Asaluyeh, a project on increase of power production capacity and improving power distribution in Bushehr Province, Trend reports citing IRNA.

Hassan Rouhani has also inaugurated a dam in city of Oshnavieh in West Azerbaijan via video conference.

The projects are financed by public and private sources. Other projects aim to increase power production of 400-kilowatt substation in Pars Asaluyeh, development of distribution network in Bushehr Province, increase of production of-230 kilowatt substation in Bushehr 1, increase of 230-kilowatt substation in Ganaveh, increase of production of substation in Bushehr Industrial City and development of 400-kilowatt Pars Asaluyeh substation.

Their implementation is expected to create jobs for 5,252 individuals.

"More measures should be taken in water and power sector; it is scheduled to inaugurate nine dams by the end of current Iranian year [began March 20, 2020]," said the president during inauguration ceremony.

""We are witnessing new problems in economy in current Iranian year due to coronavirus spread; while it is a good sign that power consumption has increased, we need to control it," Rouhani said. "By the end of current Iranian year, six more projects will be launched."

The head of state also stressed importance of ties with neighbor countries.

"Iran develops economic, cultural, tourism and technology cooperation with its neighbors. We should have close ties to create stability at borders and ensure national security," he said.
