Iran to discuss details of budget plan reform

TEHRAN, Iran, June 5

Trend:

Iran's Planning and Budget Organization (PBO) plans to reveal details of the budget plan reform and present the report on the issue to the parliament on Saturday, said the PBO head Mohammad Bagher Nobakht, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"This should make the situation with sources for the country's costs more clear, in the current Iranian year (began March 20,2020)," said Nobakht.

"The government should focus on budget resources from taxes, customs and other services at first. These types of revenues should be used for costs. When revenues are insufficient, then the government should sell its owned properties," he said.

"Big part of the spending is assigned to pension funds and social welfare, while others important directions include education, research, defense and security.

"Statistics show the country has a proper taxation capacity and by reforming tax laws, defining new tax foundations, preventing tax evasion and reducing tax exemption - all this would help increase budget revenues," he said.

"Making government properties bring in income is another option to use, in case the oil sale won't be as promising as expected," he said.
