TEHRAN, Iran, June 6

Trend:

Iran’s new presale lottery plan that was suggested by automakers is temporary and not useful, while some officials believe this is a good plan, Amir Hussein Kakaie, an auto expert, told Trend.

Nevertheless, he believes that Iranian automakers can solve part of their problems with the new presale lottery plan, since it will allow to prevent violation in distribution policies.

The presale lottery plan will ensure supervision in distribution of 25,000 vehicles to prevent violation, the auto expert explained.

“The price gap between automaker factories and auto market is around 500 million rial (about $11,000). Therefore, many people want to register online for the presale lottery,” he said.

He recalled that previously, only one applicant from fifty could register online for buying a car due to heavy traffic on the website.

"Intermediary dealers used to buy identification code to register for more vehicles online. But currently, since no payment is needed for registration, 6.2 million people can register online to buy a car," he said.

Kakaie pointed out that the big issue is currently production cut and there is a need to solve the related problem in auto manufacturing.

"Around 1.6 million vehicles have been sold in past two years, if we presume that vehicles were sold to real customers. Auto makers have faced more than $9 billion losses due to the price gap and the buyers have profited $16 billion," he added.

The government annually provides $9-$10 billion subsidies to 58 million people, while only 1.6 million used this source to purchase vehicles in past two years, he said.

“Automakers faced $9 billion worth loss due to pricing – an individual who buys a Pride for 380 million rial (about $9,200) can sell it on the market for 900 million rial (about $21,000). The cost of vehicle for an automaker is 420 miilion rial (about $10,000)," he said.

Kakaie believes that there is no immediate solution to automakers’ problems, but this presale plan can solve their accounting problem for the moment.
