Uzbekistan may establish co-op with Belgian footwear company

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 8

Association of leather and footwear enterprises of Uzbekistan (Uzcharmsanoat) held a video conference with the management of Belgian Cortina NV footwear company, Trend reports with reference to Dunyo News Agency.

During the event, Uzbek side provided information on the Uzcharmsanoat Association’s activities, as well as the enterprises that are part of it, the products manufactured and export potential.

“Commercial Director of Cortina NV, Dieter Vyls stressed that at present the company is one of the largest footwear companies in Europe. The annual turnover is about $250 million,” the message said.

Cortina NV cooperates with leading chains of stores and supermarkets around the world. The production volume is about 30 million pairs of shoes a year. The collection consists of 2,500 models of footwear for children, men and women.

“During the discussions the participants noted the existing potential for cooperation. In particular, Commercial Director of Cortina NV, Dieter Vyls expressed readiness to study proposals of Uzbek partners on establishing cooperation,” the message said.

Following the meeting, the sides reached an agreement on establishing cooperation in providing Cortina NV with expert support for the Uzbek partners on certification and advanced training in export to European markets.

The sides also intend to review the prospects of establishing joint production of footwear products in Uzbekistan and elaborate on mutual supply of products to the markets of Belgium and Uzbekistan.
