Steel plants to be commissioned in Iran

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 9

Two steel plants will be commissioned in the coming days, in the Razavi Khorasan Province (northeastern Iran), said Mohammad Sepehr Press secretary of Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), Trend reports referring to IMIDRO.

According to Sepehr, the plant, owned by Sangan Mining Industries Company, will produce 5 million tons of steel concentrate a year.

Sepehr added that the plant, owned by the Sanabad Mine and Industrial Development Company, will produce 2.5 million tons of steel pellets a year.

The official said that more than 50 percent of the equipment used in the construction of plants is produced domestically and the plants were built by Iranian specialists.

Sepehr said that these plants were built to prevent the export of Iranian raw materials.

"About 3,500 people will be employed at the Sangan Company’s plant and 1,750 at the Sanabad Company’s plant," he said.

The Sangan iron ore complex that is located in Sangan county of Razavi Khorasan Province of Iran is under the control of Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO). The Sangan mines have 1.2 billion tons of mining reserves.
