BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 12
By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
The Ministry of Defense of Georgia has responded to rumors that the purchase of a French air defense system has been partially delayed because of the ministry's budget decrease by 75 million lari ($24.6 million), Trend reports via the ministry.
"The project agreement that was signed with France in 2018 is being implemented. French aid defense systems are already purchased and are in operation. As for the new contract signed in 2018, it includes several phases of implementation. The program is not delayed by the Ministry of Defense," reads the statement of the ministry.
As reported, since the project is financed by a loan from a French private bank, even if there are no financial resources from the budget at this stage, the project will be financed, even if there is no money allocated from the budget.
"Since the project's implementation still going smoothly, the work will be financed with the remaining 5 million lari ($1.6 million) via allocations from the budget and the rest of the amount will be transferred through direct payment by the French bank", reads the statement.
